Hex Flange Head Concrete Screws & Masonry Anchors

The Hex Flange Head Masonry Anchor is a heavy duty concrete screw built to fix timber, steel, brackets and fixtures directly into concrete, brick and block. The hex flange head drives fast with a standard socket and seats flush against the fixture, while the high thread profile cuts its own thread into the base material for a secure, removable hold. The zinc plated steel body resists rust through indoor and sheltered outdoor use, making it a dependable choice for trade and DIY masonry fixing across New Zealand.

Unlike an expansion anchor, a concrete screw needs no separate plug or sleeve. You drill the pilot hole, then drive the screw straight in. That makes it faster to install, easy to remove and re fix, and reliable in both solid concrete and hollow block.

Key features

  • Zinc plated steel: rust resistant finish for indoor and sheltered outdoor masonry fixing.
  • Hex flange head: drives with a standard socket and seats flush, no separate washer needed.
  • Self tapping thread: cuts its own thread into concrete, brick and block, no plug or sleeve required.
  • Removable and reusable: back the screw out and re fix without damaging the hole.
  • Full size range: M6 to M12 diameters in lengths from 60mm to 200mm for light fixtures through to structural fixing.

Applications

  • Structural and framing: anchoring beams, plates and structural components to masonry.
  • Outdoor fixtures: securing fences, handrails and outdoor equipment.
  • Building and renovation: fastening wall mounted brackets, supports and heavy fixtures.
  • DIY and repairs: attaching shelves, cabinets and TV mounts to concrete or brick walls.
  • Industrial and commercial: safe, durable installs in warehouses, workshops and plant rooms.

How to install a concrete screw

  • Drill a pilot hole with a masonry bit matched to the screw diameter, slightly deeper than the screw will sit.
  • Clear the dust from the hole with a blower or brush so the thread bites cleanly.
  • Drive the screw through the fixture and into the hole with a socket, until the flange head seats flush.
  • Do not over tighten in hollow block or soft brick, as the thread can strip the hole.

Frequently asked questions

What is a concrete screw?
A concrete screw is a self tapping masonry fastener that cuts its own thread directly into concrete, brick or block. It needs only a pilot hole, with no plug, plastic sleeve or expansion anchor, which makes it faster to fit and easy to remove.

Can you use concrete screws in brick?
Yes. These hex flange head concrete screws hold in solid brick, concrete and concrete block. In hollow or perforated brick, choose a length that reaches a solid web and avoid over tightening so the thread does not strip the hole.

Concrete screws vs anchors: what is the difference?
An expansion anchor relies on a sleeve that wedges against the hole as you tighten a bolt. A concrete screw cuts its own thread and grips along the full depth, so it installs faster, removes cleanly and re fixes without a new plug. For most timber to masonry and bracket fixing, the concrete screw is the simpler, quicker option.

What size concrete screw do I need?
Match the diameter to the load: M6 for light brackets and clips, M8 for handrails and shelving, M10 for framing and plates, M12 for structural and heavy fixing. Choose a length that embeds at least 50mm to 65mm into solid masonry beyond the thickness of the fixture.

Do concrete screws really hold?
Yes. Because the thread engages the full depth of the hole, a correctly sized concrete screw in solid masonry gives a strong, reliable hold for structural and everyday fixing alike. The key is a clean pilot hole at the right diameter and adequate embedment depth.
